Indicate selling price
The selling price must be indicated for each product, in HUF , clearly and legibly .
It must include VAT and all mandatory charges.
You should always ask the buyer for the lowest price among several prices.
The price can be on the product, on the packaging, next to it, or on a price list.
Detailed legislation The concept of selling price, according to Section 2, point m) of the Fgytv.: the price for a unit or a given quantity of the product. Pursuant to Section 14 of the Fgytv., consumers must be informed about the selling price of the goods offered for purchase • in writing, • clearly, • in an easily identifiable and • clearly legible manner, • expressed in the legal tender of Hungary – indicating the type of the currency (forint) or its abbreviation (Ft). The selling price of the product must be the price actually payable by the consumer, including the general value added tax and other mandatory charges. In the event of multiple selling prices being displayed simultaneously, the enterprise is obliged to charge the lowest selling price displayed. According to Section 2(1) of the Price Decree, the selling price – with the exception of bulk goods and products sold in the context of catering – must be indicated • on the product, • on its packaging, or • otherwise attached to the product, or • on an individual price notice placed directly next to the product, or • on a price list that is easily accessible to the consumer when selecting the product they wish to purchase. The selling price is the price of a package consisting of different products sold in one package.
Display unit price
The unit price helps the customer compare different packages.
Examples:
1 liter of soft drink → HUF/l
200 grams of chocolate → HUF/kg
1 piece of goods → HUF/piece
Not mandatory in all cases (e.g. for packaging below 50 ml).
Detailed legislation The unit price is the price per kilogram, per litre or per millilitre, per metre, per square metre or per cubic metre of the product. The consumer must be informed about the unit price of the products offered for purchase • in writing, • clearly, • easily identifiable, • clearly legible, • expressed in the legal tender of Hungary – in forints. The unit price of the product must be the price actually payable by the consumer, including VAT and other mandatory charges. If the commercial communication relating to the product indicates the selling price of the product - unless otherwise provided by law - the unit price must also be given. The unit price plays a decisive role when choosing between products, because in the case of products with identical or similar properties, it provides the consumer with a basis for comparing the prices of the products, regardless of the different packaging quantities. The trader also has the option of choosing when indicating the unit price. The unit price of the product - if it does not correspond to the selling price - must be indicated • on the product, • on its packaging, • or otherwise attached to the product, • or on an individual price notice placed directly next to the product, or on a price list that is easily accessible to the consumer when selecting the product they wish to purchase. The unit price must be determined together with the appropriate unit of measurement, and must be calculated per unit of the product. This means: • “Ft/l”, “Ft/ml”, “Ft/cl”, “Ft/dl” or “Ft/m3” for products sold by volume, • “Ft/kg”, “Ft/g”, “Ft/dkg” or “Ft/t” for products sold by weight, • “Ft/m”, “Ft/mm” or “Ft/cm” for products sold by length, • “Ft/m2” for products sold by area, • “Ft/pc” for products sold by piece. The general rule is that the unit price must always be determined in the unit of measurement in which the goods are sold. Accordingly, it is irregular to determine and display the unit price of a product sold by volume or weight per piece. According to the Price Decree, if it facilitates comparison – • per centiliter or deciliter for products sold by volume, • per gram or decagram for products sold by weight, • per centimeter or millimeter for products sold by length. The unit price does not have to be indicated for products with packaging units or sizes of less than 50 g, 50 ml or 5 cm, sold from vending machines, in a single package, sold in sets, in special decorative packaging (when the packaging represents a separate value), and in the case of foodstuffs, put together in a package for preparing meals.
